The Garwood Center and NineSigma Announces the Berkeley Haas Open Innovation Awards
The Garwood Center and NineSigma are sponsoring the Berkeley Haas Open Innovation Awards. The three awards honor startup disruption, business model transformation, and leaders in open innovation. The application deadline is August 6th, and submissions will be judged by a panel of esteemed judges.
Award winners will be recognized at the exclusive World Open Innovation Conference attended by leading figures in the business world. The winners will have the opportunity to meet attendees and develop connections.

Building a Smart City
Eighteen undergraduate students from Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley, were in India to study the Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City, which is being built as India’s first smart city. The students are studying smart cities as part of a course on `building smart cities, leveraging open innovation.’ As part of the visit, students were divided into four groups and asked to chalk out a framework to build a smart city in the US. They will engage with city mayor’s office to carry out their projects. The scope and type of the smart city projects will be determined by the needs of the city and the mayor’s office.
