On July 22 – August 9, 2013, the Center for Young Entrepreneurs at Haas, Berkeley Business Academy for Youth hosted its first high school summer academy. Enrolled in the academy were international as well as domestic high school students. The theme and focus of the academy was critical thinking and analysis. The 32 enrolled students were tasked with learning the fundamentals of business, researching the iPhone vs. Samsung business issue and making case study recommendations. Professor Solomon Darwin was the academy’s guest professor leading the discussion on Innovation with the students. Professor Darwin explained what open innovation and strategy are, the eight building blocks of a business model and how successful business models operate.
